Greenbank Secure Large Fabrication Order

Derbyshire based engineering firm, The Greenbank Group UK Ltd has secured a €2.3m sub-contract order from SPX Cooling Technologies (Germany) Ltd for work on the new 850MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (C.C.G.T.) Severn Power Project at Uskmouth in South Wales. Greenbank have been contracted to manufacture and supply the Steam Ducting and Condensate Tanks for the Project.

The new Severn Power station is located in a part of the UK where there is a demonstrable need for new power stations. This site has been used for power generation for 47 years, and there is significant local expertise, and suppliers. It is a brownfield site in a region that requires electricity generation.

South Wales is currently a net importer of electricity, and local customers pay some of the highest prices in the UK as a result. There is also not sufficient capacity in the electricity supply to support the development of new industrial plant especially energy-intensive uses.

Severn Power will create more than 650 high-value jobs in the region, improve security of supply and support the development of new industry. The plants impact on local transmission charges and national power prices is expected to encourage new businesses to locate in the area, and prompt existing, notably energy-intensive industries, to invest in expansion or new plant, which would further increase the economic benefits to the region.

“Considering the present economic climate we are delighted to have won such a prestigious order against some pretty stiff European competition. It has added considerable man hours to our production schedule and will keep a good proportion of our work force gainfully employed for the next eight to twelve months. It will also benefit our suppliers and sub contractors in the Burton-on-Trent area.”
